Who We Are Looking For:

Chimerik 似不像 is entering an exciting new partnership with SummerWorks. For this call, we are specifically looking for Toronto-based emerging artists who have an interest in Digital/New Media arts in the intersection with live performance.

As part of our paid internship we will share our knowledge and expertise through various tutorials to follow, with hands on experience exploring how we can utilize new media as a way to expand on the possibilities of archiving presentable work and experiences.

As a company we typically use the software Isadora, an audiovisual/interactive software dedicated to performance environments. Sammy Chien (Chimerik’s co-AD) is the Official Selected Isadora Software Instructor (one of the very few people in Canada with this qualification). He was directly taught by the creator of Isadora over a decade ago, and carries not only the technical knowledge but the direct lineage of Isadora’s creative philosophy and community-driven spirits.

Unlike many other new media communities that present a culture that perpetuates class, gender and race barriers, the Isadora community is healthy, inclusive and diverse, which is in alignment with our values as Chimerik. We will also utilize an extensive database Chimerik has developed that highlights many other platforms/softwares/online tools to find new ways of working.

The Work:

As part of this paid internship, there will be a focus on exploring how we can utilize new media as a way to expand on the possibilities of archiving presentable work and experiences. This opportunity will be in collaboration and include work placements with SummerWorks 35th festival, with a specific focus on new media integration through creative incubation, experimentation, and artistic growth.

The hourly rate for this role will range from $25 - $30/hour, based on experience, with a total number of hours spanning between 120 - 140 hours for the internship period.

This position is contingent on the candidate, with our support, successfully securing a Canada Council Professional Development grant. Work will be flexible around the interns schedule, with confirmed availability needed between August 7th - 17th, 2025 and will be scaled according to the amount of grant funding received. We aim to be flexible with scheduling as we understand the fluidity needed to work as a freelance artist.
