🌏 Project Context: Residency in Hengchun, Taiwan

In October 2025, Chimerik 似不像 embarks on a research residency in Hengchun 恆春, the southernmost tip of Taiwan, as part of the Far Far Away Festival 花花生活節.

Situated where the ocean meets the mountains, Hengchun is a place of layered histories — from ancient trade routes and folk songs to Indigenous Paiwan heritage and Japanese-era hot springs. Our time here focuses on exploring how land, technology, and community knowledge converge, and how creative practices can reimagine relationships between art, ecology, and local culture.

Through this residency, we continue our ongoing investigation into embodied and relational design, using immersive research and participatory learning to build bridges between traditional knowledge systems and contemporary digital art.

🚀 About Launcher Lab

Founded in 2018 on the Hengchun Peninsula, Launcher Lab draws its name from the island’s ancient moniker “Langjiao”—symbolizing the launch of creative and cultural energy into new horizons.

What began as a small group of artists, dreamers, and explorers has grown into a community hub for innovation, sustainability, and slow living. Launcher cultivates connections between local artisans, small businesses, and visiting creatives through cultural programs, residencies, and festivals rooted in the rhythms of the land.

From mountain trails and coral reefs to red-brick towns and hot springs, Launcher celebrates Hengchun’s living culture—where everyday life becomes art and creative expression grows directly from the soil, sea, and stories of the region.

🌸 About Far Far Away Festival 花花生活節

Running from October 3–19, 2025, the Far Far Away Festival 花花生活節 is a multi-week celebration of art, ecology, and local life in Hengchun.

Set across three festive weekends—including the Mid-Autumn Festival 中秋節, Republic Day 國慶日, and the Indigenous Sports Games 原住民族運動會—the festival offers visitors a deeper, more connected experience of the region.

Reimagining tourism and community engagement, the festival links over 30 local partners—from hiking guides and diving collectives to restaurants, hot-spring inns, and craft vendors—with artists and researchers from across Taiwan and abroad. The result is a constellation of creative encounters that activate Hengchun’s cultural, ecological, and economic ecosystems.
