Vanka Chaitra Salim (she/her) is a muslim Indonesian-Canadian artist grateful to be living and creating in the Unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh) territories, colonially known as Vancouver, BC. She is a UBC alumni from the Bachelor of Fine Arts Theatre Production and Design Program and currently a Computer Graphics student at Think Tank Training Centre focusing on 3D environments for games. Vanka has worked with various companies for theatre, dance, and art installations focusing her designs on projection, set, and lighting. Some of the more recent companies she’s collaborated with include Go2productions, Lamondance, PTC, Rice and Beans, Arts Club, Gateway Theatre, Presentation House Theatre, and more. Currently she is interested in exploring more immersive and interactive experiences and/or storytelling, especially in collaborative work environments. She is keen to integrate her background in the different theatre design disciplines as well as her current study on game environments to create more accessible spaces for the community and uplift marginalized voices. You can also find her around town freelancing as a theatre technician, scenic painter and once in a blue moon you might see her with Srikandi Indonesia performing traditional Indonesian dancing.
