For the Dance Lab's residency, our goal is to focus on researching and developing projection/new media technology from the choreographic/movement materials that we have so far, to further integrate the technology with storytelling with ritual, spiritual practice and movement art.

We Were One is a movement and new media research project which investigates human connections and questions the prejudices we experience as a society. Through actively decolonizing and unfettering complex dialogues around model minority racism, intersectional feminism and queerness, the artists re-image and contemporize ancient architectures and practices (Qi Gong, Energy Healing work, Ancestral Rituals and Mediumship), in order to further understand the past and help us heal forward.

In this informal studio showing, the artists will share and discuss work in progress.

Sammy Chien and Caroline MacCaull co-run Chimerik 似不像, an award-winning interdisciplinary art collective. Sammy is a first generation Taiwanese-Canadian immigrant and queer artist-of-colour, director, performer, researcher and mentor who works with film, sound art, new media, performing arts and spiritual practice. Caroline is a femme-identified queer artist with background in movement/dance, new media and mediumship. In recent years, they have been focusing on researching and performing ritual practices, digital technology and authentic spiritual work in connection with the larger topics of race, gender and deeper human connections.
